Joku normanni professori kommentoi useampaan otteeseen että Hydro ja sittemmin Statoil syöksyivät projektiin paniikissa laskevien reservien ajamina. STP:ltä löytyy melko kattava kartta Alberta tervahiekkablokeista ja niiden omistajista, jos kiinnostaa arvuutella kenen kanssa yhtiö saattaisi lyödä hynttyyt yhteen.
