Petrobras has handed Odfjell Drilling and Greek shipowner Metrostar a contract worth over $500 million for a drillship newbuild.

Ocean Rig UDW announces award of drilling contract for two newbuild drillships

On May 11th 2011 the Company announced two drilling contracts with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. ("Petrobras") for operation offshore Brazil for two of its new built drillships, the Ocean Rig Corcovado and the Ocean Rig Mykonos.

The term of the contracts are three years each with a total combined value of USD 1,1 billion.

Drillers keep eyes on Petrobras plans for new rigs

State-owned company Petrobras (PETR4.SA)(PBR.N) awarded a contract for the first seven of 28 planned deepwater rigs to a Brazilian shipyard in February.

But Noble Corp (NE.N), owner of the world's second-largest rig fleet, disclosed in a filing with U.S. financial regulators last week that Petrobras informed the company that it had canceled bids for the remaining 21 rigs.

Renato Duque, Petrobras director for services, said the company would open the bidding and that the construction would be in Brazil, but the timing remained unclear. "We will decide in May when the bid will begin," Duque told Reuters.

A deepwater drilling rig construction industry does not currently exist in Brazil and Noble did not participate in these bids primarily because we viewed the capital risk associated with constructing a unit in Brazil as inappropriate. Petrobras has awarded the first tranche of seven drillships to a Brazilian shipyard for delivery beginning in 2015. Recently, Petrobras informed us that they have cancelled the bids for the remaining 21 newbuild units, leading us to believe that they will tender for needed units in the marketplace as opposed to building new units in Brazil. Nevertheless, the future of Petrobras' building program remains uncertain and the ultimate number of deepwater rigs to be built in Brazil is still unknown. While Petrobras is currently in the market tendering for existing deepwater drilling units, the potential increase in supply from the Petrobras newbuilds could also adversely impact overall industry dayrates and economics.

Onko lisää sopimuksia tarjolla? Jos PBR:n alustarve ei ole muuttunut niin on. Jos tarve olisi vähentynyt niin yhtiö olisi todennäköisesti laskenut tuotantoennusteitaan, mutta näin ei ilmeisesti ole ainakaan vielä käynyt. Mutta mitenkähän Brasilian hallitus suhtautuu tähän sillä sehän on jo sakottamassa yhtiötä siitä että sen käyttämien "kotimaisien" tuotteiden osuus kokonaisuudesta on jäänyt alle vaatimusten. Tuotantotavoitteita ja korkeaa "kotimaisuuden" astetta ei ilmeisesti voi saavuttaa samalla kertaa(kotimaisuus lainausmerkeissä, koska tuotteet olisi käytännössä vain koottu Brasialiassa).

Deepsea Stavanger back on the market

"Odfjell Drilling has confirmed that Brazilian giant Petrobras cancelled a pre-award agreement for its newbuild semi-submersible drilling unit Deepsea Stavanger.

Odfjell boss Kjetil Lenning said: "The pre-award agreement with Petrobras was cancelled by notification.

"We are now actively marketing the rig."

The Deepsea Stavanger is currently under construction in South Korea. Daewoo is building the rig, with delivery scheduled for June next year."

Miksi purku? PBR on saanut vastaavan aluksen halvemmalla? Yritys ajaa dr:ä alemmas? Poraus tarve vähentynyt?

Viimeinen vaihtoehto vaikuttaa juuri nyt epätodennäköiseltä.

Entinen Petrorig I, nykyinen Ocean Courage on tietääkseni ainoa tällä hetkellä vapaana oleva udw-rotisko, joten Diamondin kieputin saattaisi olla menossa korvaamaan Stavangerin.

Viimeviikolla julki tuotu BP:n & kumppaneiden Tiber-löytö GOMista varmasti piristää kysyntää, mutta paine alas päin udw-päivätaksoissa kasvaa. Vapaa UDW-tarjonta on vielä ensi vuonna rajallista, mutta vuonna 2011 markkinoille on tulossa runsaasti sopimuksettomia aluksia Enscolta, Noblelta, Pridelta ym. ja vanhoja sopimuksia päättyy.

Pemexillä on tällä hetkellä viisi puoliuppoavaa lauttaa sopimuksilla (yksi Noblelta(Max Smith), Seadragonilta(SDO I), Diamondilta(Ocean Voyager) ja PetroMENAlta(Petrorig III) ja yksi meksikolaiselta operaattorilta(Muralla)). Viidestä vielä kolme on rakenteilla ja ottaen huomioon PetroMENAn tilan on on mahdollista että PR III vaihtaa omistajaa ja ruo sopimus purkautuu. Voyagerin maks.operointi syvyys on alle 4000 jalkaa.

Pemexin on viime vuosina yrittänyt kompensoida laskevaa öljyntuotantoa kasvattamalla maakaasu volyymeja, mutta nyt massiivisesti kasvanut liuskekaasu USA:ssa ja Kanadassa pitää huolen että kaasusta ei saa kunnon hintaa jos sen saa edes myytyä.

Odfjell lines up Deepsea Stavanger job

"Rig-owner Odfjell Drilling said today it has reached an agreement for a three-year contract with Petrobras for the charter of its 6th generation semi-submersible drilling rig the Deepsea Stavanger.

“The contract is still dependent on both parties agreeing on conditions¿we expect a final decision in a few weeks,” said Odfjell boss Kjetil Lenning.

Odfjell declined to comment on a value for the charter at this stage..."

The deepwater rig market seems to be quite active, though the demand side is driven mainly by a single company.
