Our fifth North American resource play is located in Northern Alberta, the Muskwa oil play. So far, we have an accumulated 170,000 net acres in our first well flowed light oil with initial production rate in the 50 to 100 barrel a day range. This is somewhat encouraging, and we are looking to put that well on pump for further evaluation. It is still early days for us, and we are planning to drill another well later this year to continue testing the play and our completion techniques.

 In Southern Alberta, we continue to see positive results from our first well completed in the Three Forks zone, with production rates now over 400 barrels of oil per day of light oil, a well that has been producing over 120 days. We have fixed the wax buildup in that well and have been rewarded with these higher rates, a promising sign for this area. We have just completed our second well on the same zone and are monitoring initial production results. With this encouragement, I expect to step up activity here this year.

At the Rainbow Muskwa project in northwest Alberta, a horizontal well targeting the Muskwa shale was completed with test results as expected. The well is undergoing pressure build-up prior to being placed onto production. Drilling operations commenced on a two-well pad, which will carry through spring break-up.

Ei juuri uutta. Vuonna 2011 porattujen kaivojen määrä jäi kahteen, vuoden alussa puhuttiin jopa neljästä. Tämä ei näytä etenevän. Syy selvinnee piakoin. Sekä LEGin ja SOGin mukaan ensimmäiset kaksi kaivoa tuottavat yhä 60 BOEta/päivä mikä viittaisi siihen Chinkeh-kaivon tuotanto ei laske lähellekkään niin paljon IPstä kuin esim. Bakken-kaivon ja näinhän SOG on viestinyt alusta alusta asti. LEGin Yanko on muutamaan otteeseen sanonut että Chinkeh-muodostelmalle ei löydy varsinaista vastinetta Liard Basinin ulkopuolelta, vaikkakin sen stratigrafinen vastinkappale Pohjois-Albertassa on Cadomin, joten voi olla että LEG haluaa nähdä kuinka kuinka frakatutu horisontaalit todella käyttäytyvät tuotannossa (vs. simulaatiossa) ennen kuin sitoutuvat projektiin. Hieman turhauttavaa tämä on.

Steen River- Keg River

Kolme uutta Keg River-vertikaalia tuotannossa, joiden IP30:t: 185, 355 ja 125. Keskimääräinen IP 220 BOE:ta(toivon mukaan lähinnä öljyä), mikä vastaa tuotantoennustetta(IP30 200 tynnyriä/päivä).

Steen River-Sulphur Point

Ensimmäisen Sulphur Pointin IP20 on 150 BOE/päivä, ennuste ensimmäisen 30 päivän keskimääräiseksi tuotannoksi oli 150-200 BOE:ta, mikä minusta oli aika korkea luku stimuloimattomalle horisontaalikaivolle. Kaivossa täytyy olla jotain vikaa, koska yhtiö julkisti testiluvun jo marraskuussa, joten kaivon pitäisi olla tuottanut jo vähintään 30 päivää yhtäjaksoisesti.

Uusi alue, joka on mainittu parissa viime vuoden tiedotteessa, tosin ilman nimeä. Vuodelle 2012 on budjetoitu varat kahteen Ämpäriin porattavaan frakattuun horisontaaliin. Jean Marie-karbonaatti ja Muskwa-liuske ovat yhtiön tähtäimessä. Tiedotteen mukaan molemmat ovat öljyisiä alueella. Muskwahan on Duvernayn vastine tuolla pohjoisessa ja EOG osoitti jo pari vuotta sitten että Muskwasta irtoaa öljyä, mutta tuota pidemmälle ei projektia vienyt. Jean Mariesta on muistaakseni tuotettu runsaasti kaasua Brittiläisessä Kolumbiassa ja Muskwakin on kaasuinen B.C:n Horn Riverissä.

Tämän vuoden ohjeistus alla:


Vuoden 2011 keskimääräinen tuotanto oli noin 1,200 boeta, joten ohjeistuksen saavuttaminen merkitsisi 100% kasvua.
On kiintoisaa nähdä millainen tuotantokäyrä uusilla Keg River-kaivoilla on, nimittäin, jos nämä seurailevat alueen aiempien KR-vertikaalien käyriä(tuotanto laskee ensimmäisenä vuotena 30-40%) on osake edullinen. Aika näyttää.
Joulukuun sisäpiirin ostojen vastapainoksi viime viikolla on myyty 10,000 osakkeen erä. Yhtiön osakkeiden määrä on muuten noussut vuodessa noin 35%.

Olen hieman kasvattanut SOG-positiota ja paino salkussa ei ole enää vähäinen, joten jos tulee turpaan niin verta roiskuu ja hampaita lentää.

Worsley on lähin CPG pooli Luoteis-Albertassa, mutta se on 100 kilometriä etelämpänä. Ilmeisesti kyse on Muskwan potentiaalista:

While there's growing industry interest around some emerging shale/tight oil plays in Alberta, companies involved in the early-phase exploration of them have offered little in the way of publicly-available information and data to date.

Aside from the Alberta Bakken/Exshaw, the Devonian Muskwa/Duvernay shales in northwest Alberta's Deep Basin, the Jurassic Nordegg shales in the Peace River area of Alberta and the Cretaceous Second White Specks in the Deep Basin are also in play.

"Given virtually no long-term horizontal production history and very early geochemical, petrophysical, and mineralogical data, we believe it is too early to comment on which shale oil play will end up at the top of the heap," said Macquarie Equities Research analyst Ray Kwanin a recent report.

"...while thefirst Muskwa horizontal by CCRL produced at a peak rate of 100 bbls per day on a calendar daybasis. So far, there have been no horizontals drilled in the oil window of the Duvernay," he said.

Shale development in the Rainbow area had been relatively non-existent until late September 2009 when CCRL drilled a horizontal well at 02-30-109-08W6 targeting "what we believe is Muskwa shale oil," Kwan said.

"While still on confidential status, the well was producing on a calendar day basis at a peak rate of approximately 100 bbls per day (37-38°API). On top of this, a producer(s), under the guise of several land brokers, managed to purchase over 250 net sections through Crown land sales since 2010," he added.

"In our view, the leading contender is EOG Resources, which recently came out of hiding by licensing a horizontal Muskwa well this summer (T107-R09W6). EOG is arguably the most knowledgeable and astute producer in identifying shale oil plays in North America."
