"Colombia Bets on Shale as Peace Talks Open Oil Frontiers"

Bloomberg:
A unit of Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) and state-controlled Ecopetrol SA were winners yesterday in the country’s first auction aimed at drawing investment in oil and natural gas found in shale rock formations...

Canacol Energy Ltd. and ExxonMobil Sign Agreement for Shale Oil Exploration Project in Colombia

Key terms and conditions

Pursuant to the terms of the FOA, ExxonMobil will carry the cost of the drilling and testing of up to three wells to test conventional and unconventional targets in the La Luna and Rosablanca formations, both proven oil source rocks in the area. The first two wells will be vertical wells, while the third well will possibly be a horizontal multi-stage fractured well. It is anticipated that prospective intervals of the La Luna and Rosablanca will be cored and logged within the first well, and stimulated and flow tested within the second well. Should ExxonMobil choose to proceed with a third well, it will possibly be a horizontal multi-stage fractured well. Under the terms of the agreement, ExxonMobil will pay 100% of the cost of the three wells, up to a cap of gross US$15 million for each of the first 2 wells, and a cap of gross US$ 17.5 million for the third well should it be a horizontal lateral well exceeding 4,000 feet in lateral length, and US$ 15 million should it be another vertical well. ExxonMobil will also pay Canacol US$ 2.2 million upon execution of the FOA for back-costs related to the acquisition of 3D seismic on the block in 2011. The total potential investment on the block is approximately US$ 50 million. In return, ExxonMobil shall earn 50% of Canacol's 40% interest in the contract. Vetra will remain as operator of VMM 2 during the exploration period and expects to spud the first exploration well in late 2012. The formal assignment of working interests as contemplated by the transaction, including Canacol's 20% interest, remain subject to the approval of the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) of Colombia.

Keskipitkän/pitkän aikavälin sijoitusidea

North European Oil Royalty Trust(NRT). Kyseessä on NYSE-listattu ilman päätöspäivää toimiva trusti.

Reuters:

Feb 20 (Reuters) - U.S. oil group Exxon Mobil sought to cool predictions of a European shale gas revolution, saying commercial production was at least five years away and dismissed forecasts offered by other industry players as "highly speculative".
Kevin Biddle, Exxon's exploration director for Europe, also downplayed the prospects for Poland -- believed by many to have the continent's largest reserves -- leading the shale gas charge, saying on Monday that Germany was more likely to be the first shale gas producer.

Ainakin ylempi ja vasen "old rights"-blokeista on NRT:n maita.

"'Find of a lifetime' in Black Sea: OMV"

UPSTREAM:
An offshore Black Sea well jointly owned by ExxonMobil and OMV's Romanian arm Petrom has made a potentially significant discovery, according to the Austrian player

Operated by ExxonMobil on a 50% interest, the Domino-1 well is the first deep water exploration well in Romanian waters and is located in the Neptun Block, 170 kilometres offshore.

OMV said the exploration well encountered 70.7 metres of net gas pay, resulting in a preliminary estimate for the accumulation ranging from 1.5 trillion to 3 trillion cubic feet.

Speaking in Vienna as OMV announced its annual results, chief executive Gerhard Roiss told reporters that if confirmed, the find could be the largest in the company’s history, Reuters reported.

En pikaisella etsinnällä löytänyt kaivon tarkkaa sijaintia. Alla on sivu Sterling Resourcesin tammikuun presentaatiosta. Kuten kartasta näkyy SLG:llä on muutama kohtuu kokoinen prospekti aivan OMV:n & Xoomerin blokin kyljessä. IV:ssä on varsin aktiivinen Sterling-palsta, jossa lisää aiheesta.

SDRL - Seadrill secures a two-year contract extension for the ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig West Aquarius

Hamilton, Bermuda, November 17, 2011 - Seadrill has been awarded a two-year
extension for the ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig West Aquarius which is
currently operating in Asia under a worldwide contract for ExxonMobil. It is
anticipated that the extension period will primarily involve operations in the
North Atlantic area. An estimated period of 106 days will be required to
mobilize the rig and prepare for operations which will be in addition to the
firm extension period. The expected revenue potential for the contract extension
is estimated at US$422 million, including US$35 million for the mobilization and operational preparation period. Furthermore, ExxonMobil has the option to extend the contract period further for of up to two years.

ExxonMobil in $41bn swoop in XTO

Ei ole minulle kovin suuri yllätys. Itse olen odotellut XTO:lle, Chesapeakille tai EOG:lle noutajaa lähivuosina. Noista yhtiöstä löytyy paljon osaamista epätavanomaisista resurseista ja niillä hallussa merkittävää kasvua mahdollistava assetpohja. Ja jonkinverran kokoakin.
Voisi olettaa että Exxon alkaa jatkossa lobbaamaan maakaasua ankarammin amerikkalaisille poliikoille.

Offshore.no: Sparer milliarder på ny teknologi

Aihe eli light well intervention on todella mielenkiintoinen. Idea on ydin on jackuppien, semien ja drillshippien korvaaminen vedenalaisessa kaivon huollossa ja stimuloinnissa riserittomilla light well intervention-kiteillä ja dp:llä varustetuilla OSV:llä. Ainakin Aker Oilfield Servicellä ja Island Offshorella on käytössä LWI-aluksia. Marine Subsealla on rakenteilla pari juuri deepwater LWI-hommiin suunniteltua alusta, yhtiön osakkeet löytyvät Oslon OTC:stä.

Kosmos's Ghana sale bid ‘illegal’
"We have formally notified (Kosmos) that we do not recognise whatever agreement they reached with ExxonMobil - we told them we disapprove of it because it's illegal," the GNPC source said.

The source said Kosmos had violated Ghanaian laws when it shared confidential exploration data with over 20 companies for its own commercial purposes without giving the GNPC any prior notification."

ExxonMobil seals $41bn China LNG deal

"Australia and China struck their biggest trade deal ever today as the world's two most valuable listed oil companies, Exxon Mobil and PetroChina, agreed a $41 billion liquefied natural gas deal.

"It's a statement about the nature of our two economies and the fact that Australia is important to China, just like China is important to Australia," Australian Resources Minister Martin Ferguson told Reuters in Beijing.

The gas sale agreement between ExxonMobil and PetroChina comes just weeks after ExxonMobil signed a A$10 billion (US$8.24 billion) Gorgon LNG sales deal with India's Petronet, which marked Australia's first ever LNG contract with India..."

Exxon ei osaa porata

'Guarani well drilled in wrong spot'

The Guarani well, which was drilled by US supermajor ExxonMobil in Brazil's pre-salt fairway and came up dry, was spudded "in the wrong place” Brazilian Energy Minister Edison Lobao has claimed.

State-run Petrobras recommended the Guarani well be drilled in a different location, Lobao said today in an interview in Brasilia.

“The dry well occurred because they drilled in the wrong place. It was a mistake,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg. “There is no risk with the pre-salt...”

Huh!

"Guarani well off Brazil disappoints"

"US player Hess said the Guarani appraisal well on the BM-S-22 licence in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil showed disappointing results..."

Itseasiassa tämän kaivon hinta taitaa olla korkeampi. BM-S-22 operaattori Exxon vuokrasi Seadrillin West Polariksen edelleen Petrobrasille jo pari viikkoa sitten, joten tätä saattoi odottaa.

The Black Sea

Petroleum geology of the Black Sea
"The Black Sea comprises two extensional basins formed in a back-arc setting above the northward subducting Tethys Ocean, close to the southern margin of Eurasia. The two basins coalesced late in their post-rift phases in the Pliocene, forming the present single depocentre. The Western Black Sea was initiated in the Aptian, when a part of the Moesian Platform (now the Western Pontides of Turkey) began to rift and move away to the south-east. The Eastern Black Sea probably formed by separation of the Mid-Black Sea High from the Shatsky Ridge during the Palaeocene to Eocene. Subsequent to rifting, the basins were the sites of mainly deep water deposition ; only during the Late Miocene was there a major sea-level fall, leading to the development of a relatively shallow lake. Most of the margins of the Black Sea have been extensively modified by Late Eocene to recent compression associated with closure of the Tethys Ocean. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and carbon isotope analysis of petroleum and rock extracts suggest that most petroleum occurrences around the Black Sea can be explained by generation from an oil-prone source rock of most probably Late Eocene age (although a wider age range is possible in the basin centres). Burial history modelling and source kitchen mapping indicate that this unit is currently generating both oil and gas in the post-rift basin. A Palaeozoic source rock may have generated gas condensate in the Gulf of Odessa. In Bulgarian waters, the main plays are associated with the development of an Eocene foreland basin (Kamchia Trough) and in extensional structures related to Western Black Sea rifting. The latter continue into the Romanian shelf where there is also potential in rollover anticlines due to gravity sliding of Neogene sediments. In the Gulf of Odessa gas condensate has been discovered in several compressional anticlines and there is potential in older extensional structures. Small gas and oil discoveries around the Sea of Azov point to further potential offshore around the Central Azov High. In offshore Russia and Georgia there are large culminations on the Shatsky Ridge, but these are mainly in deep water and may have poor reservoirs. There are small compressional structures off the northern Turkish coast related to the Pontide deformation ; these may include Eocene turbidite reservoirs. The extensional fault blocks of the Andrusov Ridge (Mid-Black Sea High) are seen as having the best potential for large hydrocarbon volumes, but in 2200 m of water."

XOM hits paydirt in Brazil

ExxonMobil Notifies Brazil ANP of 2nd Find at BM-S-22

"The Brazilian unit of global oil titan ExxonMobil Corp. notified Brazil's National Petroleum Agency that it had made a second oil discovery at the BM-S-22 offshore block.

In a routine filing with the ANP, Exxon said that it had once again discovered traces of oil in a well drilled in the Santos Basin's BM-S-22 block. In January, Exxon said it had discovered oil in the same 1ESSO3SPS well.
ExxonMobil's local press office confirmed that discovery, which was dated Feb. 17 but posted on the ANP's Web site late Tuesday, was new but declined to give any further details. It's unclear if the find was made after deeper drilling of the well."

"The BM-S-22 block was the last to be drilled in a promising region that could hold deposits of up to 33 billion barrels of oil equivalent, or BOE, government officials have said. The block is part of a cluster of four blocks that contain a gigantic geographical structure, which industry experts and analysts believe could contain several discoveries the size of Petrobras' Tupi find."
